Claire Wilson recognised as the 2025 Staffordshire LTA Cathie Sabin Volunteer of the Year.
Wombourne Cricket, Tennis and Bowling Club is incredibly proud to celebrate Claire Wilson, Vice Chairperson for Membership, who has been named Staffordshire LTA Cathie Sabin Volunteer of the Year for 2025, a prestigious award recognising outstanding voluntary contribution to tennis at a county level.
Claire has been a central figure at Wombourne Cricket, Tennis and Bowling Club, Tennis Section, for a number of years and has played a pivotal role in shaping the welcoming, inclusive and family focused club that members enjoy today. In her role as Vice Chairperson for Membership, Claire oversees every aspect of the member journey, managing renewals, new member inductions and ongoing engagement through Clubspark. Her attention to detail and personal approach ensure that every member—new or long standing—feels valued, supported and part of the club community.
Beyond membership administration, Claire has been instrumental in growing junior and family engagement. She leads the planning and delivery of the Tennis Section’s themed events throughout the year, including Wimbledon, US Open, Halloween and Christmas celebrations. These events have become highlights of the Wombourne Cricket, Tennis and Bowling Club calendar, encouraging participation, strengthening friendships and making tennis fun and accessible for younger players and their families.
Claire is also a key organiser of the Annual Presentation Evening, working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the event runs smoothly and provides a fitting celebration of achievements across all sections of the Tennis Section. Her organisational skills and commitment help bring together players, families and volunteers for an evening that reflects the spirit of the Tennis Section.
Commenting on the award, Ade Jeavons, Chairperson of Wombourne Tennis Section, said:
“Claire has become an integral part of our committee, our Tennis Section’s membership and junior engagement. She gives an extraordinary amount of time and energy to making sure everyone feels welcome, connected and valued. This award is thoroughly deserved and recognises not just how much Claire does, but the positive difference she makes to the experience of our members and their families every single day.”
The Staffordshire LTA judges recognised Claire not only for the volume of work she undertakes, but for the impact of her contribution—her tireless commitment, organisational excellence and passion for tennis have helped strengthen community spirit and drive sustained membership growth.

Reflecting on the recognition, Claire said:
“I’m genuinely honoured and very grateful for the support of the committee, volunteers and members at Wombourne. I love being part of such a friendly and supportive club, and it’s been a real pleasure helping to create opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy tennis and feel part of the Tennis Section community.”
As part of the award, Claire will be formally recognised at a Staffordshire LTA awards ceremony later this year, where she will receive her certificate and club banner. She has also been awarded the opportunity to attend Wimbledon 2026.
On behalf of everyone at Wombourne Cricket, Tennis & Bowls Club, we congratulate Claire on this outstanding achievement and thank her for her continued dedication to the Tennis Section. She embodies the very best of volunteering in grassroots tennis.
